Presiden Jiao Zong Ong Chiow Chuen menyatakan perletakan jawatan Dr Maszlee sebagai Menteri Pendidikan adalah baik untuk beliau sendiri dan masa depan pendidikan. Berbanding dengan menteri-menteri dalam kerajaan sebelum ini, beliau agak kurang cekap dalam tugas membawa perubahan yang baik kepada sistem pendidikan negara – The Star 3 Januari 2020.
Rentetan peristiwa sebelum ini, amat jelas Dr Maszlee adalah korban pertubuhan pendidikan yang memperjuangkan bahasa Cina ini. Perlu diingatkan bahawa Dong Jiao Zong merupakan kuasa yang berpengaruh dalam masyarakat Cina dan sebagai tunjang kepada kekuatan parti DAP.
Sebelum ini Dr Maszlee yang telah dilantik sebagai Menteri Pelajaran oleh Perdana Menteri Tun Mahathir telah di asak habis-habisan oleh Dong Jiao Zong, NGO’s Cina dan akhbar-akhbar mereka, tetapi dapat bertahan atas sokong Tun Mahathir. Semalam, beliau terpaksa meletak jawatan.
Penulis Wong Chun Wai, melalui akhbar The Star pada 3 Januari 2020 mengulas ” perletakan jawatannya hanyalah sekadar menjaga air muka beliau. Ramai maklum yang beliau dipinta meletak jawatan apabila Perdana Menteri sendiri tidak dapat mempertahankan beliau”.
Professor UIAM Dr Nik Ahmad Kamal menyifatkan isu seperti Jawi, progam permakanan kanak-kanak sekolah dan Unified Education Certificate (UEC) agaknya menyumbang kepada perletakan jawatan ini.
Saya tidak berasa hairan dengan perletakan jawatan Menteri yang tidak di sukai kaum DAP. Tun Mahathir sendiripun memegang jawatan Perdana Menteri atas ehsan parti DAP dan part konco-konconya. Apabila tiba masanya beliau sendiripun perlu pergi. Apa nak dihairankan?
